Titi, the intergenerational character in 404’s world.
404’s artistic universe is very colourful, he hijacks imaginary figures, characteristic of a singular personal research. The bright, fluorescent and subtly associated colours give a real dynamism and depth to his sculptures. He seems to play with proportions, which adds humour.
It’s amazing how this obsession can turn into dozens of unique works.
In contrast to his colourful characters, the artist’s wardrobe is classic. What he is, what he needs to say or express, is there somewhere. A former engineering student, 404 combines his dedication to science with a lifelong love of art. A classicist by day, he has his feet on the ground to focus on the important things. An artist by night, his sometimes absurd dreamlike vision is always benevolent.
Yet the relationship between an artist and his art is not so simple. Contemplating his work is like awakening the imagination within. All his works
are based on are based on true stories. Each piece takes you on the most surreal of journeys.
404 likes the idea of taking the canary completely out of context, creating another perspective. Not only are his pieces humorous and frankly phantasmagorical, but he takes an unexpected approach.
And when he talks about his work: he lets ‘real life’ inspire his characters. There are little hints of a story waiting for you to unravel it. There are little hints of a story waiting for you to unravel it. Some colours are deliberately chosen so that you don’t know if it’s day or night.
Like Claude Monet, who painted nothing but haystacks for nearly four years, 404 plays, has been representing Titi for three years, it’s crazy and brilliant. Its many facets make it unique. Looking at them takes you to an enchanted place. And each time you can see things you never noticed before, hidden in the shadows or the shapes… Details that hide underneath. Pictures within pictures.
The atmosphere is wonderful, disturbing and strange at the same time. Imagination and symbolism are linked. An intergenerational character as a way to connect and accept or not the world. It is liberating to find the right word for something you think or feel.
