KALA
BIOGRAPHY
The refined works of Jean Paul Kala are a true ode to the powerful and authentic nature of his cradle: «North Kivu» where he lives the day.
Attracted by matter and mechanics, the budding artist’s hands did not hold up and, when he became a teenager, he discovers the welding and shaping of metals, it is a revelation that takes possession of his being: he becomes a known expert in the matter.
The European dream had been in his plans for years. In the 2000s he decided to cross the CAP and settle in Belgium where he perfected his technique with the best, thus obtaining the recognition of his peers and the most demanding amateurs.
Probably influenced in part by the ancestral art Imigongo, precursor of abstract art, in 2013 he launched his own brand of high-end furniture R&J which quickly acquired notoriety among enthusiasts in search of beauty and exclusivity.
Jean Paul Kala’s creations stand out for their organic, elegant and generous curves; undoubtedly the fruit of his African origins. Technical mastery combined with extreme attention to detail transform metal into masterful contemporary art creations.
